Teacher Librarian
Position Overview
The Teacher Librarian at Imperial World School is responsible for developing and managing a dynamic school library that supports reading culture, inquiry-based learning, and research skills across all grade levels. The Teacher Librarian works closely with teachers and students to promote literacy, information literacy, and responsible use of information while fostering a lifelong love of reading.
This role combines library management with teaching and learning support, ensuring that the library functions as an active learning hub where students explore ideas, conduct research, and develop critical thinking skills.
Key Responsibilities
Library Management & Resource Development
- Manage and maintain the school library collection, including print and digital resources.
- Organize and catalog books using appropriate classification systems.
- Develop and update the library collection to support the school curriculum and diverse student interests.
- Maintain accurate records of library resources and inventory.
Reading Culture & Literacy Promotion
- Promote a strong reading culture across the school community.
- Organize reading initiatives such as:
- Reading challenges and book clubs
- Book fairs and literacy events
- DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) programs
- Guide students in selecting appropriate reading materials based on their interests and reading levels.
Research & Information Literacy
- Teach students essential research and information literacy skills.
- Guide students in locating, evaluating, and using reliable information sources.
- Support students in developing proper citation practices and academic integrity.
- Assist students with research projects and inquiry-based learning activities.
Collaboration with Teachers
- Work collaboratively with teachers to support curriculum-related reading and research resources.
- Provide materials and resources that support classroom learning and projects.
- Assist teachers in integrating library resources into their lessons.
Library Environment & Student Engagement
- Maintain a welcoming, organized, and student-friendly library environment.
- Encourage independent reading and student engagement with library resources.
- Support student-led reading activities and literary programs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Library Science, Education, or related field.
- Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience in library management or school library services.
- Experience working with students in an educational environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with library management systems and digital research tools.
